There is a place in Nanaimo called the Thirsty Camel and I love it!!! They have the BEST Tahini Dressings and dip – I asked how to make one and he told me but he did say that he gets his Tahini from Israel (I believe that’s where it was), could be Lebanon (I know I should remember, but I don’t). He said it is really good and he cannot find anything like it here but….I wanted to try it.
It is so simple and just a few ingredients so even though it is a very simple recipe – it is really good.
What is so great about this is dip is that it can be used in so many ways.
Below is the recipe and below the recipe I give you ways you can use this dip.
1/4 C tahini
3 1/2 Tbsp water
2 Tbsp lemon juice
Salt (to taste did not measure)
1/8 – 1/4 tsp Cumin (optional)
Add tahini to a small deep bowl, then add lemon juice and stir to mix
Add Water, salt and cumin – stir until creamy. Taste and adjust to taste. If you want it thinner, add more water or lemon juice.
That is it! Super easy and super fast.
Store in fridge.
WAYS TO USE THE TAHINI DIP (some pictures below)
Make it into a salad dressing – by adding more water and then a bit more lemon juice until it is in the consistency of a salad dressing.
Dip with veggies – like bell peppers, cucumber, celery, carrots, jicama, etc
Spread of rice crackers – below is a picture of some Tamari Seaweed organic rice crackers – really good on those
Use as a sauce on top of steamed greens
Use as a sauce on top of sauteed or steamed veggies – such as broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, green beans
Use as a dip for rice wraps or collard wraps (how to make video HERE)
Use as a sauce for sauteed tofu
Spread on lentil burgers
Here is a very simple and quick, tasty salad that is excellent with the tahini dressing on it.
Jicama, Cucumber, Romaine lettuce and Tomatoes
Tahini Dip on Tamari Seaweed Organic Rice Cakes.
Tahini Sauce on Broccoli and Greens, Dates and Nuts
I am sure you can think of more ways to use it once you try it. And note that what it tastes like on it’s own is a bit different when you add it to something like salad, veggies, etc.
As you can see a simple dip (or dressing) can be used in many ways and that is how to make healthy eating all week easy. It is to be able to use simple recipes and simple ingredients to make many dishes (meals).
I hope this inspired you to be creative!
