in All the other good stuff

Summer is close and the farmers markets have started!! I have been looking forward to this all winter.

I am lucky where I live to have farms close to buy fresh veggies from and we have some fantastic farmers markets. Today I was at the Cedar Farmers Market and picked up some gorgeous mixed greens and some plump red cherry tomatoes along with some of my favorite olive oil soup. This was a small haul, usually I buy a lot more.

Even though it is not quite summer I was pleasantly surprised by all the fresh veggies available. I encourage everyone to check out the farmers markets in your area. All you have to do is “google” them. There is nothing better than fresh local food and you would be surprised by all the stuff that is offered at these markets.

There are famers offering fresh, hormone free, organic meat – of all kinds. There are jams, jelly, honey, nut butters and of course baked goods. There are homemade soaps, creams (of all kinds), homemade sauces and spice mixes and a whole lot of plants. These are just a few of what you will find and things vary from one market to another.

It is a great way to spend the morning and afternoon. There is usually baked goods and food for sale along with drinks and usually a locally roasted organic coffee. While eating and checking out the goods local artists play, sing and entertain.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE support farmers, artisans, bakers and craftsmen & women in your area and

get out to the Farmers Markets!!

In Nanaimo check out the following markets:

  • Wednesday 4:30 – 6:30 – Beban Park
  • Friday 10:00 – 2:00 – Downtown Nanaimo (waterfront)
  • Saturday – 1:00 – 4:00 Lantzville (St Phillips Church), 8:30 – 12:00 Quallicum Beach, 10:00 – 1:00 Errington
  • Sunday – 10:00 – 2:00 Cedar (Crowe & Gate Pub)

I encourage everyone to grown their own veggies on deck or back yard but if you cannot or if you cannot grow all you want then I KNOW there is a Farmers Market you can get to each week because there are a few to choose from. Do yourself a favor and buy LOCAL!!! You will save money and the quality is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!
