THE TROUBLE WITH CHILDRENS’ CEREALS

HOW HARD IS IT TO GET A HEALTHY BREAKFAST FOR KIDS?

If you are looking for healthy breakfast or snack ideas for your kids, stay away from popular popular childrens’ cereals.

The fact that they are marketed specifically for children is such a crime. They are actually very harmful to kids and anyone who consumes them. To find out why, read on.

Below is information that was published in the online newsletter “Natural News” by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger (www.naturalnews.com)

I could have just put the link to his newsletter here but I wanted to make sure that people actually read the information so I copied some below and summarized part of his article.

It may already be obvious to you that Froot Loops cereal is not healthy as it obviously contains preservatives, chemicals, harmful dyes and a ton of sugar but what cereal lovers also have to be aware of is that the wax paper cereal liners in the cereal boxes contain a petrochemical called 2-methyl-naphthalene. Mike Adams states that “this chemical is a constituent of petroleum, automobile exhaust, …. waste water from coal gasification, coke and shale oil production….” etc.

This chemical is most likely released from the wax paper cereal liners. This may happen when the wax paper is heated when it is sealed. That would cause the off-gassing of chemicals which can then be absorbed by the cereal.

How harmful is this? Well, the FDA received dozens of complaints from consumers who could taste and smell the chemical on the cereal. It made some feel ill. As a result Kellogg recalled 28 million boxes of its cereals and the FDA began an investigation.

So what do you think became of this investigation? You can probably guess……Here is what Mike reported “The investigation essentially consisted of the FDA asking Kellogg what went wrong and Kellogg explained that 2-methyl-naphthalene accidentally got into the cereals from the plastic liners, and the FDA said “Okay” and concluded its investigation.” ISN’T THAT INCREDIBLE!!

How toxic is 2-methyl-naphthalene? It was deemed to be safe by the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 but just because a chemical is declared to be safe, doesn’t mean it is. These chemicals have NEVER been tested for human safety. When consumers are exposed to these chemicals and have reactions, doctors do not know how to treat them. The FDA has NO CLUE what the chemical does.

Below is what the FDA published about this:

“It appears that the cereals were packaged in cereal boxes with waxed paper liners that imparted bad taste and odour to the food. The wax paper liners appear to be the source of the problem.”

They didn’t even mention the name of the chemical that caused the problem. Maybe they didn’t want anyone to actually investigate and learn more about the harmful affects of this chemical.

Kellogg was not fined for this mass exposure of a toxic chemical and is still packaging all its cereal in that same wax paper, like nothing is wrong.

Mike Adams checked further into this chemical and this is what he found:

It is a petroleum chemical. There is a web site called Scorecard.org that categorizes the chemical as a “respiratory toxin.” (http://www.scorecard.org/health-eff…)“Exposure to chemical substances can cause adverse effects on the respiratory system, which consists of the nasal passages, pharynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs. Respiratory toxicity can include a variety of acute and chronic pulmonary conditions, including local irritation, bronchitis, pulmonary edema, emphysema, and cancer.”“reported effects of methylated naphthalene” (a sister chemical related to 2-methyl-naphthalene) include “skin irritation and skin photo sensitization.”

The Speclab.com website says the related chemicals are commonly used to manufacture moth balls (moth repellants).

Foot Loops – obviously – contains artificial colors which are derived from petrochemicals.

How dangerous is it to eat Froot Loops? If a person eats the cereal once or twice it is probably fine. BUT…..eating these cereals laced with 2-methyl-naphthalene and many other chemicals they contain will be harmful over a lifetime of exposure. For one, this is probably not the only product a child (or anyone else) is consuming that is full of chemicals. How many do they consume in one day?

If you take the time to read the labels of everything you eat or give to your family you will be absolutely shocked and horrified! All these chemicals are building up in the body and causing problems to begin. If they do not show up right away – they will in the future. You can bet on that.

I say the problems do show up almost immediately. They show up in symptoms such as fatigue, foggy thinking, inability to concentrate, mood swings, aggression, inability to sit still and allergies – just to name a few.

Mike Adams has been writing about health for seven years and I agree with him when he says that all packaged food materials have some sort of health risk, from the aluminium used in soda cans to the plastic used in deli meats.

Many foods in grocery stores are contaminated with numerous chemicals. Try to stay away from packaged and processed foods. Summer can be a great time for fresh vegetables and fruits but also a bad time for over processed meats such as hamburger, hot dogs and smokies that go on highly processed void of nutrients white buns and bread. Then there are the over sugary treats, colored popsicles and greasy fast foods at amusement parks and festivals.

Read ALL labels – PLEASE! I cannot stress this enough.

I WANT YOU TO LIVE HAPPY & HEALTHY FOR A LONG, LONG TIME!

DECIDE THAT YOU WANT TO ALSO AND DO WHAT IT TAKES
